The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP)
October 2017 – August 2018
The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) aims to enhance the quality of surgical patient safety in the NHS and the independent sector across the UK. In this role I led on campaigns across the organisation, including training and events, membership communications and recruitment, and our perioperative jobs board. I was directly responsible for the Marketing Assistant and supporting the management of the Membership Team.
My responsibilities included leading on campaigns for membership growth and retention, education, and events, including:
- management of the marketing budget, ensuring optimum return on investment.
- liaising with key stakeholder groups to ensure timely, engaging and brand consistent communications
- raising the Association’s profile through press and media activity in print and online.
- management of the Association’s two websites
- analysis of all owned, earned and paid channels
- managing and developing social media platforms
- responsibility for regular member communications in print and online
- liaising with external design and print suppliers when necessary
- project management for events marketing campaigns, including the annual conference
- management and development of PPC advertising campaigns through Google Ads
- supporting the Association’s volunteer cohort and actively recruiting new volunteers
I was also the primary contact for the media and worked closely with the trustees, CEO, Patient Safety Lead and Regional Leads to produce engaging content for web and print.
My greatest success at AfPP was transforming ownership of the association’s volunteer (Link Member) programme, updating and improving marketing and comms in close liaison with the Patient Safety and Quality Lead. The volunteer role had been previously unmanaged and “unloved” but was nevertheless a vital connection between AfPP and operating departments across the UK. In just six months, we successfully cleaned the 400+ database, removing Link Members no longer interested in the role, re-engaging those already volunteering, and recruiting over 25 new Link Members in the north of England.
